Content and Accessibility Serviices Team Support

CAST is available to support library staff in the creation of eLearning resources by

  • Recognizing potential accessibility issues or concerns
  • Selecting an appropriate format for your learning resource
  • Identifying OER to adapt and seeking permission, as needed
  • Advising on eLearning pedagogy and instructional design
  • Creating digital learning resources based on the content submitted
  • Provide training and resources for library staff to create their own learning resources

How do I request support from CAST?

Please complete and submit the eLearning intake form.

You can use the form to request:

  • New content: This could be something newly designed by library staff or adapted from an OER.
  • A major revision: A redesign of an existing object created by library staff.
  • A minor revision: small changes to a published learning resource, including screenshot updates or small wording changes.
  • A new course guide: this may be a guide that needs to be created from scratch, republished or copied from an existing guide.
  • Adding editors to an existing Course or Subject guide: the course guide is published but new library staff need to be added.

Check the eLearning Project Tracking list to monitor progress on your project.

What happens after I submit the form?

New content or major revision

A member of CAST will book a consultation to discuss the proposed learning resource. You will be asked to:

  • Outline the purpose of the proposed learning resource and the gap(s) it will address
  • Identify existing U of G library resources and/or external OER that may assist in meeting the current need
  • Complete a learner analysis and reflect on the learning needs of the intended audience

Please note that questions will depend on the format and scope of the proposed learning resource.

During the meeting, library staff and the Digital Media Team will discuss:

  • Who will create the final learning object
  • Timeline and process
  • Accessibility and best practice considerations
  • Resources to assist in the design and creation of the learning resource

Please review the eLearning Workflow section of the guide for more information about each step.

Minor revision, new course guide or editor request

A member of CAST will review the requested edits and make updates. If the team has questions or concerns about the updates (e.g., platform limitations or accessibility considerations), CAST staff will reach out to the staff member who submitted a request.

Once the edits are complete, a CAST staff will email the main contact and ask them to review the changes.

What formats can I create?

Here are the resource types you might consider:

  • Short videos
  • Interactive tutorials
  • Infographics, handouts and worksheets
  • Library Guides

Who creates the final version?

Who creates the final version of the content will be determined in consultation between content creators and the eLearning team. Factors include,

  • complexity of the project
  • accessibility
  • access to, and knowledge of, specialized tools and software
  • time

How do I get content on the Digital Learning Commons (DLC)?

Once your content is complete, fill out a DLC final submission form. This information helps the CAST team create the content item page on the DLC. It also populates the DLC Items list, including review date, which automatically sends reminders to teams.
