How do I print?

Please note that you cannot print an entire eBook, as per copyright restrictions. For each eBook, there are a maximum number of pages that can be printed.

  • To print, select the printer icon in the control menu above ebook viewer.
  • You will be prompted to select a page range and indicate your preferred citation style.
    • The maximum number of pages that can be printed will be indicated on this screen.

How do I download chapters and pages from an eBook?

  • You can download a chapter by clicking the Chapter Download icon in the control menu above the eBook viewer.
    • Hover over the icons to locate this function.
  • You will be prompted to select your preferred citation style. The full citation will be included in the PDF download.

How do I copy text, highlight and make notes?

​When selecting Copy Text, Highlight, or Add Note functions, you will be prompted to sign in to Ebook Central. Select "Continue" for the University of Guelph's Sign In page. 

  • With your cursor, highlight the text you want to copy, highlight, or make notes on.
  • A window will appear with the Copy, Highlight (multiple colours), and Add Note functions.
  • When you highlight or make notes, the eBook will automatically be saved on your Ebook Central Bookshelf for later viewing.

Why am I seeing the message "This eBook is not available for download"?

This message will appear when all available copies have been checked out or when the publisher has only made the book available for online viewing.

How many copies of an eBook are there?

  • The number of copies varies for each eBook.;
  • This information can be found on the Detailed Record page under "Availability", or by clicking "More..." in the control panel of the eBook viewer.
  • If all copies are in use, "this book is not available for download" message will appear. The message will also indicate when the book is due back.

How do I place a hold on an eBook?

  • You cannot place a hold or request on an eBook.
  • If the eBook is checked out, the Detailed Record page will indicate when the eBook is due back.

How do I return an eBook I have downloaded?

  • In your Library on Adobe Digital Editions, right-click an eBook. Select "Return Borrowed Item"
  • By returning an eBook it will become available for others to use if there are limited copies.

How do I download Ebook Central eBooks to a mobile device or e-reader?

Mobile Devices

  • Ebook Central supports iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod) and Android (Phone, Tablet)
  • You will need the Adobe Digital Editions mobile app to download eBooks. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
    • Note: An Adobe ID is required to transfer eBooks between devices.
  • Select the "Full Download" option on Ebook Central, and select the mobile device you will be downloading to.
