How to Understand License Usage Information in Omni

The library purchases and subscribes to electronic journals, e-books, databases, streaming media and more. These resources are provided by a wide range of vendors and publishers, and are licensed in the same way that subscription services such as Netflix and Spotify are licensed to individuals. In other words, the use of these resources is subject to specific license terms and conditions, which include how the content can be used, as well as what kinds of uses are not permitted.

License terms for many resources are displayed in Omni. You can find them by:

  1. Searching for the content you want in Omni.
  2. From the search results, click on the relevant title.
  3. Scroll down to “View Online”. Select the source that has the coverage that you need.
  4. If the source has a “Show License” link, click on it to display the relevant license terms.

Explore the tutorial below for explanations of the license terms displayed in Omni and determine which uses are permitted or prohibited for the resource you are using.
