Non-scholarly books inform and entertain; they are typically published by commercial presses and do not necessarily examine topics in detail or at a sophisticated level.
Scholarly books disseminate research and academic discussion; they are intended for university-level study and research with the goal of advancing a field of knowledge.
How can I find books?
A great place to start is Omni. Search for books, e-books and more available at the University of Guelph and beyond.
To search for a specific book title, enter the title with quotes around it. For example: "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Origin of Species".
For author, enter last name, first initial or first name. For example: Shakespeare, W or Shakespeare, William.
By using a book’s paratexts (i.e. surrounding material) such as table of contents, bibliography and index, discover more information and directions you can pursue.
