Collect Data With a Survey: Using Qualtrics

What is Qualtrics?

Qualtrics is a powerful survey tool that allows users to create, distribute, and analyze surveys. Qualtrics survey software has passed University of Guelph security requirements to be used for administrative and research purposes.

Who can use Qualtrics and how do I log in?

The University of Guelph has a license which makes Qualtrics available to U of G faculty, staff, and students. Your first log in will create your Qualtrics account. 

Log in using your U of G or Guelph-Humber credentials (the same as used log in to GryphMail or CourseLink).

Troubleshooting Qualtrics Issues

  • Before reaching out for help, use the Qualtrics Support site to learn the details of the functionality you are working with. Use the text search to find the pages you need.
  • If you have made changes that you don’t see in your live survey, make sure you have published your changes.
  • You may need to refresh your browser cache if you still don’t see the changes.
  • Be very careful making changes to a live survey that has already collected data. All collected survey data is directly linked to the current survey questions. Changes to survey questions can delete response data you have already collected.
  • If you are having a new issue with something in your survey that used to work, check your version history, where you can see when you have published versions of your survey and what changes were made. You may be able to identify what created the problem.

Support from Qualtrics

Qualtrics Support can answer many of your questions.

To contact a support representative via phone, email, or chat: 

  • Go to the Qualtrics Support page.
  • Click on Contact Support.
  • Select Sign in with SSO.
  • Enter uoguelph as the organization ID. You may also be prompted for your U of G central login and password. You must use the account that you intend to ask for support in.
  • For account support or technical support with the Qualtrics survey system, select I have a different support request.
  • From the drop-down list, select Survey Platform.
  • You will have the option to Chat, Email, or Call Qualtrics Support for help.

Support from the Qualtrics Community

There is an online Qualtrics Community of users who answer each other’s questions. Often more complicated answers can be found there. In particular, survey creators who need to add Javascript code to their survey to create functionality not included in the Qualtrics software, can often find and use code shared on the Qualtrics Community.

Qualtrics Support from U of G

You can get support for a limited number of technical issues from the U of G Qualtrics Brand Administrators. This support is limited to:

  • Trouble logging in
  • Requests to move surveys or data from one U of G Qualtrics account to another U of G Qualtrics account
  • Enabling licensed functionality in your Qualtrics account (only the following items):
  • Managing Qualtrics outgoing email quota issues
  • Creating a Qualtrics Group for your team or research group or adding/removing group members
