About this Tutorial

Welcome to the introduction to digital storytelling. This course walks you through the various elements of creating a digital story. By the end of these tutorials, you will be able to

  • Define digital storytelling‚Äč
  • Identify elements of good storytelling
  • Create a script and storyboard>
  • Find media to use in your digital story‚Äč
  • Record and edit audio in Audacity>
  • Create and edit a digital story in WeVideo>

There are 5 modules to complete. Each one has activities, practice and opportunities to explore. You are encouraged to take your time and participate as much as you can in order to get the most out of each tutorial.

Step 1: Create an account 

Create a WeVideo account

By creating an account through this link, you will have access to the library's educational license, which has more features than the free account. You will have access to the upgraded account for one semester. At the end of every semester, accounts, and their contents, are deleted. 

Step 2: Explore WeVideo

Explore WeVideo and see how much you can figure out how to do on your own. 
  • Create a blank project
  • Upload video footage (if you don’t have any of your own, use this media
  • Add video to timeline
  • Trim your video
  • Split your clip
  • Delete a portion of your clip
  • Add stock video footage
  • Apply the Chroma Key (green screen effect)
  • Layer two images and fade
  • Add text
  • Add an image and resize it
  • Change your video to black and white 
  • Add music
  • Finish your video
